Sun Spots

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I have one more day to go and I plan on enjoying it fully out doors since the sun has decided to say hello. I spent most of the day hanging out with Kim sipping on iced coffees and swinging on swings. It was just what I needed after a hectic week. Something about a maxi dress lends ease to a laid back day, and this one was perfect for the day I had.

TGIF!

Aren't you guys so happy it's Friday?!?! For me this means I have only 2 more days until my weekend starts, and I'm excited for it because on Sunday I plan to hit up Jeremey's 60% off Fall sale :) For those of you in the Bay area, there is one location in SF and one in Berkeley and I highly recommend you checking it out. It's like a Marshall's or Loehmann's on steroids. Designer and casual wear highly discounted.

As for my outfit; I have an incredibly busy day (hence the one picture) so I thought of doing comfortable layers. Think airport chic. My favorite stretchy jeans and 3/4 sleeve top with fun layers to put it all together.

Sweater: ByCorpus via Jeremey's ($4!!!!). Scarf: Handmade by me. Shirt: Target. Jeans: Forever 21. Boots: Luxury Rebel via Nordtroms. Necklace: Gifted. Bag: Lucky Penny.

Currently Craving: Warm Staples

I know San Francisco's "Indian Summer" is on its way. At least I hope it is. September, October, and sometimes even into November San Francisco hits very high temperatures and constant sunshine, which I cannot wait for. But being a bonafide San Franciscan means that I am always on the lookout for new, chic outerwear, and this season's batch is looking like it's going to be irresistible. I'm loving the different swingy silhouettes for coats, and leather accents on cold weather accessories. Lately I have also been thinking that it may be time for me to sift through my closet to get rid of older things to make room for some young adult/professional pieces. I've graduated and while I am currently comfortable with the jobs I do have, soon it will be time for me to not only apply to graduate programs, but also apply to some "big girl" type jobs. Below are a few things that are currently on my wish list, that I think will fit the bill for a more professional type look.

(Don't worry though, my personal style will always remain a bit funky and quirky...patterned tights and all)

This coat is amazing because of its shape. It's unique, and because it is made of a heavy fabric you know it will keep you warm through the coldest winter while making you look stylish and put-together. It is very different than anything I own, and have owned, but I am looking to add more grown up pieces to my wardrobe, and I think outerwear is a good place to start.

Here is another coat with a fantastic silhouette. It's much more tame than the H&M one, and cheaper, but it is also made of a less luxurious fabric. I personally am a fan of the darker color, and contrast belt and piping.I can see this fitting in with my closet perfectly, while also being a great grown up closet transitional piece.
I LOVE these gloves. All I can say is I need them. They are perfect.
This isn't necessarily cold weather appropriate on it's own but I can see this as a great transitional piece. During the "summer" this would be great with shorts and skirts, and as it gets colder you can pair them with jeans, tights and skirts, and maybe even some knitted socks on the coldest of days. They are a little girly, a little grungy, and a whole lot of cute. This may not be grown up wear, but hey, I'm still young ;)

Tuesday Bluesday

I woke up this morning and realized it's only Tuesday. How very disappointing that it isn't even the middle of the week yet! I'm looking forward to Sunday (that is actually when my weekend starts), and maybe some sunnier weather. It was quite beautiful yesterday, even early in the morning. I woke up earlier than I normally would have to have the last breakfast with my friend Justine since she has now officially moved to Chicago. I dropped her off at the airport, and it was weird to know I wouldn't be living blocks away from her anymore, as I have been for the past 5 or so years.

Onto my outfit... I really don't have too much to say about it. It's chillier than yesterday today, so I basically layered on my current comfy favorites. And my new leather jacket, of course. I may live in this until the rain starts. Which reminds me, does any one know if it's ok to put leather protectant on a jacket? Any recommendations?

Jacket: Gap. Sweater: Nordstrom Rack. Dress worn as skirt: H&M. Tights: Hue via Anthropologie. Boots: Corso Como. Scarf: Anthropologie. Bag: Lucky Penny. Sunglasses: Ray Ban.

Nopalito

I realized today that I have not done a food related post in a while, and if you don't know by now, I LOVE food. I love it almost as much as I love clothes, because hey, I will sacrifice a fancy dinner for some fancy shoes ;)

I recently visited Nopalito with a few very special people. Nopalito is in the same neighborhood as its big brother restaurant, Nopa, a very famous, almost impossible restaurant to get into. Nopalito however, is strictly about Mexican food.

I left this restaurant with mixed feelings about my experience. First of all they don't take reservations, so it's best to call at least an hour in advance to put your name down on the list, as we did, in order to be seated in a timely manner. The restaurant is small and very modern, which is an interesting contradiction to the food they serve. The food was delicious though. I got the mole chicken, which was one of the best of this dish that I have ever had. The sauce was hearty and you could taste the chocolate in it. Everyone I was with enjoyed their dish very much as well. We also got a pitcher of their margarita, which was good but seemed a little watered down.
The biggest downfall for me was the lack of an extensive dessert menu. We had one option for dessert; home made popsicles in one of two flavors available- chocolate or strawberry. I shared the chocolate flavor with Kyle. It was tasty but also very rich so we couldn't even finish it. I would have hoped that they would have had more options for dessert. On a cold San Francisco night a popsicle isn't the most ideal dessert, and for a restaurant that has such a fantastic menu for dinner, you would expect a little more effort on dessert to round out the experience for their customers. Would I go back? Yes, but not for any kind of special occasion.

Mexican Rice with Beef Meatballs

Carne Asada Fajita

In other exciting news...
A good friend of mine has offered to do a little photo shoot for me. He has set up a make-shift studio and is going to take a bunch of outfit pictures. He has always been into photography but since he has moved to SF he hasn't been able to put that interest to use, so this is quite an exciting experience for the both of us. You will see the final products little by little as I will post them every now and then as outfit pictures.

Easy Breezy

Have you ever had one of those days where you stand in front of your closet for what may seem like an eternity trying to figure out what to wear? Today was one of those days. I don't know if it's because I have some new pieces that I want to wear all at once but can't, or if it is because of this bi-polar weather, or even because I wish I could wear my comforter out for ...well... comfort. In situations like this I stick to the basics; jeans, sweater, and a jacket. You can never go wrong with easy layers that you can dress up with some accessories.

Jacket: Marshalls. Sweater: Forever 21. Jeans: Banana Republic. Shoes: Material Girl. Necklace: Vintage. Belt: Forever 21. Bag: Lucky Penny. Sunglasses: Vintage
