Mother's Day Ideas

Mother's Day

Here are some ideas for lovely mother's day gifts, and though all of these sit on a pricier side of things, it's great inspiration. Of course, a gorgeous bouquet of flowers would also be a perfect gift, especially if it's DIY and personalized ;)

PUNK: Chaos to Couture

Another Met Gala has come and gone, and I have to say, I LOVED this year's theme! It leaves so many options to be experimental and have fun with it! While some options were gorgeous, I still thought there were a lot of safe looks, especially for the theme. Below are all my favorite looks- and remember, I took the theme heavily into consideration!

Anja Rubik fierce in Anthony Vaccarello: She was RED HOT and so daring with this. Totally something you could see a glam 80's rockstar wearing!

Kate Bosworth pretty in punk wearing Balmain: I loved this look. The heavily embellished details, and the smokey eye lent to the punk factor just enough.

Sarah Jessica Parker going all out in a Giles Deacon gown and Philip Treacy headpiece: Well if the gold medal was to be given to anyone who really took the theme to heart, it's SJP. I mean, look at that headpiece!!! She killed it!

Kerry Washington going fleur noir in Vera Wang: This is pretty, and still punk, to me. I love the darker color palette, leather, and black tulle details, and the hint of goth in the bodice webbing detail. Also, notice the purple hair streaks- subtle but effective.

Sienna Miller going 80's chic in Burberry: I felt as though this is a little bit 80's punk bride, but I couldn't help loving it anyways. That leather jacket is sick, and the headpiece was a clever detail. Both elements helped toughen up the pretty and simple white gown.

Jorts

Last week we experienced an unbelievably beautiful forecast, so I was really excited to expose my legs consistently. This look, especially the shorts in particular, were highly experimental for me. I was inspired by this pin, and decided to do a late night DIY project which resulted in this. It's not something I would have worn prior to this pin, but it's something I can warm up to. What do you think?

Office Casual

The office I work in is quite laid back, which is really, really nice. However, I work in fashion, so that pretty much ups the ante in my book. Everyone I work with has such a fun, unique sense of personal style, it's hard not to get inspired daily. Because of this, I've been trying to always represent my style, even on a not so great day. Typically, when creativity, or energy run low, I stick to my basic outfit below: A buttoned up shirt, some sort of accessory, well fitted jeans, and comfy yet unique shoes. This always does the trick!

May Must Haves

May Must Haves

I think one of my favorite posts to put together for PostGradChic is the monthly must haves collage. I really hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
For May, I'm really loving statement pieces that dress up simple pieces. May is all about lightening everything up, from layers, to colors, so having one stand out item really makes an outfit pop. A great patterned kimono is the perfect topper for casual weekend, while jacquard shorts can make a night out look shine. A pop of color peep-toe booties add fun to any look, as does a statement geo cuff, and bright pink lip stain. Also, the white YSL coat is absolutely gorgeous and versatile- you could wear it as a date night dress on it's own, or top off a great leather pant and tee outfit! Definitely something I am lusting after!

Incognito

If I were a famous person hiding from paparazzi this would probably be the kind of outfit I would do it in. This big floppy hat does a great job at hiding my face. Actually on second thought, I could barely see where I was going with this thing on, so maybe it's not the best idea...! Have a great weekend!

Leather and Leopard

Leather and leopard are both very bold prints/materials to have on clothing, so I thought it would be really fun to go all out and wear them all at once. I kept the shoes neutral just so all the focus would be on the apparel. This is definitely bolder look than I would normally wear, but sometimes, you have to push out of your comfort zone to try new things you may like, and I ended up liking this look a lot!
