Rainy Day Rainbow

A bit ago a good friend asked me to model for her while she took photos for a photography class she was in. It was pretty gloomy out, in fact it started to rain on us, so I decided to brighten things up with one of my favorite coats. I stumbled upon the photos recently and decided to share them since I think they are great shots. I love how she played with the colors of my coat and our surroundings.

Colors

I love the idea of wearing bright colors for the summer! It's festive, adds to the warm and bright feel of the season, and it just is fun. We have all seen color blocking become the #1 trend for the Spring and Summer season, but I just want to briefly go over some of the colors of this season that I believe would also be great for the upcoming Fall season.

Emerald:

One of my absolute favorite shades that is unfortunately lacking in my closet at the moment. While in the summer it pairs beautifully with other colors, like mustard, I think in the Fall emerald would match wonderfully with burgundy, navy and rich chocolate browns as well as the basic black and grey.

Rusts and Reds:


We have seen these colors every where, and they are a little difficult to pull off for everyone (especially bright cherry red) but I think they bring a certain edge to any outfit. I can see these pairing well with dark forest greens and browns in the Fall. Grey is also a great match.

Mustard:

The brightest and warmest color of them all. While in the Summer this color basically represents the sun and warmth, in the Fall this would pair well with rich browns, navy, dark purple, burgundy, and black and white patterns (especially stripes).

I hope that this inspires you to add a pop of color to your outfit on even the coldest, dreariest Fall day.

Blue Day Comfort

When I'm having one of those days where I want nothing more than to sit in my room, secluded, pretending that the world outside doesn't exist, but can't, I turn to my clothing to provide the comfort I seek. Uber soft t-shirts and slacks are my go to.

I have found that when buying clothing you should have a list of requirements that each piece you plan to buy should meet before investing. For me comfort is #1. Comfort doesn't mean sloppy, though. I fully believe that even on the laziest days you must always look like you got out of bed with a purpose.

So I've decided to share my short list of requirements for when I go shopping:

1. Is it comfortable?

2. Is it flattering? (i.e. does it fit, hide trouble spots, highlight best features...)

3. Is it unique to my wardrobe?

-This one is important because I tend to buy a lot of similar pieces out of comfort-

4. Do I need it? (I always feel like I do...)

5. Can I afford it now?

So after sharing that, here is my outfit that kept me comfortable and looking sharp on one of my not so best days.

Pattern Play

When I'm stumped on how to dress due to the fickle weather in San Francisco, a maxi skirt or dress is the way to go. It's enough coverage to keep you warm, but still breezy if it ends up being warmer than expected. Yesterday I left the foggy climate of the Richmond district for the sunshine and heat of Union Square and was perfectly comfortable for the transition in this outfit!

I also liked how the stripes of the skirt compliment the fan pattern on the blouse. They do not clash at all- instead they hold their own and blend beautifully...In my opinion that is...

The Fourth

I spent the fourth of July with good friends and my boyfriend having a picnic in Golden Gate Park. Wine, salami, cheese, crackers, brownies, and bread were just some of the treats we got to devour. It was a great time, and I have the burns to prove it. After a quick snooze at home we trekked our way to the Embarcadero to watch the fireworks show. Overall I consider July 4th, 2011 a success!

Sunny Saturday
