Olive

Although it may look like beautiful weather in these pictures, don't be fooled because it was incredibly windy, and chilly this past weekend. I've been looking for an olive colored anorak/utility jacket for a while now, and I managed to finally find the perfect one at Zara, and just in time for the appropriate weather. My favorite feature of this jacket is the drawstring waist, which helps allow you to maintain your waist shape in a larger jacket. It's the little things ;)

Times Two

It was an especially windy day today, so in order to keep the wind from cutting through my clothing, I decided to double up on my outerwear. The best part about this over-sized Steven Alan coat is that I can easily layer thicker items, like a denim jacket, under it. I'm headed to a Sharks game later on this evening, so these layers will also help with staying warm in a frosty stadium.

Coat: Steven Alan (similar). Denim Jacket: Forever 21 (similar) Sweater: J.Crew. Jeans: Gap. Booties: Madewell (here) Bag: Anthropologie. Scarf: World Market.

Swing

Earlier today I was sitting in my room listening to the rain really slam against my window. Two minutes later I looked outside and the sun was shining. That is my favorite kind of rainy weather, the kind where the sun makes a triumphant return. It brightens my mood and makes the gloom seem not as bad. It also is a real reminder that winter is slowly approaching, not that the growing count of layers on my body all at once isn't reminding me anyway. I don't know if it's a colder Fall/Winter transition this year, or if I just am not used to it, but I'm finding it very difficult to get the right combination of clothes for warmth. Below I'm wearing a new swingy cape coat. It's very warm and fun, so at least I can look cute while bundled up, which all that matters, right??

Stand Out

I cannot stress how much I believe that your outerwear should be unique, fun and different. As the temperatures drop, I notice that individual's uniqueness in style sometimes does as well because everyone is bundled up under a big neutral coat. While I do think a fantastic, classic neutral coat is a closet necessity, I also think that one or two more fun ones are as well. I have a few coats, that if need be, could make an outfit on their own with the right shoes and accessories, not that it's practical in anyway whatsoever, but I think it's a good rule of thumb. Below I am wearing one of my favorite standout coats with a simple sweater, black jeans, and black boots. I think if it weren't for the coat's unique pattern, texture and details, my outfit would be quite plain and boring. So what are you waiting for, go get crazy with your outerwear!!!
