Grunge

It's funny how hair can transform how you feel like dressing from one day to the next. This morning I woke up with tousled, messy waves, which made me feel very 90's grunge. So, I decided to go with it. Pairing stripes, with a bold skirt, and tough-girl boots felt appropriate, and topping it off with an over sized trench just made sense. I guess it's true, hair really just is another accessory.

Red Carpet Round-Up: 2012 SAG Awards

Ah, how I love awards season. I love looking at how different celebrities (and celebrity stylists) interpret their style on the Red Carpet. Here I have some eye candy from the 2012 SAG Awards. I have to be honest, I really was not impressed with what I saw. There were some pretty gowns, but nothing really made me think, "Wow that is BRILLIANT!" Below I have my three favorite looks from the night. Each of the looks had a stand out element in them, so they stood out the most, for me.

LOOK at the color!! It's beautiful. No one can do color like Oscar, and in a sea of neutral, but pretty gowns, Emily's gown stood out and screamed, "Look at me!" The fit is excellent, and she accessorized perfectly with some fun bangles, a sparkly clutch, and equally sparkly shoes. Her makeup was perfectly natural, and her hair pulled up casually, so the dress really could stand out.

Another great look from Emma Stone, who is quickly becoming a Red Carpet favorite. What I love about her look is that it is equally as glam as any floor length gown, but its tea length stands out, and is special. Her ring is also amazingly fierce, and adds so much edge to a sweet, but dark, look.

Jayma Mays is always cute and put together on the red carpet, but she hasn't really ever stolen the show. However, I think last night's look really stood out. The navy color, and all over embellishment is fantastic. The cut, though conservative, is different, and beautiful. What really did it for me is the sweet, and sexy, lace back. The dress would have been beautiful without it, or even if it was just cut out, but the addition of lace gives another element to the whole look. Her hair, makeup, and accessories compliment the look wonderfully, and I think she looks amazing.

Who do you think stole the show? Anyone you'd like to add to the list?

Clash, clash

I hope your weekend was nice and relaxing! I'm back in San Francisco, and exhausted. Today was intense since I literally had to fly home, unpack, and go to work. Phew- glad it's over. I didn't get as many outfit pics as I wanted to/would have liked to/could have, while I was in LA, so here is the last documented outfit I wore. It's pretty busy, and there's definitely pattern play here, but I liked the two together. The floral skirt is on trend for Spring 2012, and I thought the plaid shirt would be fun to pair it with. To keep things from getting too mixed up, a thick black belt helped separate the two patterns. Have a happy Monday!

Lace and Stripes

Happy, happy Friday! I'm in LA for the weekend, and the weather is around 80 degrees. Can you believe it's January?! I'm taking advantage of it by wearing combos I wouldn't be able to wear in SF. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Cut n' Dye

I was ready for a hair change so I dyed it a darker brown, got some layers in, and cut bangs! What do you think?

A Bunch of Favorites

Sometimes putting on all your current favorite pieces at the same time makes a surprisingly cohesive outfit. I'm shocked I haven't worn this coat for an outfit post yet! It's one of the most unique choices of outerwear I have. My cords are a new purchase, and are actually leggings, but they are super thick and comfy, so I made a exception to my 'no leggings' rule. The blouse and scarf are closet staples, and I always feel great wearing them. And I don't need to talk about how these Rachel Comeys are a favorite... I've done that before ;)

Celebrity Style: Diane Kruger

Hello everyone! Here is another installment of 'Celebrity Style'! Diane Kruger is my red-carpet idol. Not only is she drop dead gorgeous (she did play Helen of Troy, anyway), but she is also the epitome of glam, sophisticated, and sexy. She isn't afraid of color, daring and body-con silhouettes, and being different. Everything she has worn on the red-carpet has had me floored. Her street style is just as great, and effortless. She isn't afraid to be ultra-femme in a dress, and at the same time, she works mens-wear like no other. Here are a few shots of my favorite red carpet and street style moments, and let me tell you it was hard to choose just a few.

Up to There...

I sometimes gravitate towards some matronly items. This skirt for example is an awkward length on me, but I couldn't turn it away because it is made of extremely soft and cozy cashmere. What helps the length, in my opinion, is the side slit. It allows me to play with shoes and tights I wear. I paired some patterned grey tights with the skirt this time, but next time I'm thinking a bright color.

Spring Showers

With on and off sprinkles yesterday, I found it comfortable to wear a more Spring appropriate outfit. The generally sunny day inspired me to pull out some color, and while they don't necessarily match, I thought that they complimented each other quite well. The shoes have to be my favorite part of the outfit, because from the front they look like plain black pumps, but from the side they are a work of wooden art. I found these guys at nearly 75% off their original Anthropologie price at Jeremy's. Love that store!

Currently Craving: Leopard Print Coat

I know, I know. I have a leopard print blouse, and I'm still on the look out for the perfect pair of leopard print shoes; I shouldn't add a leopard print coat to my arsenal. It's too tempting to say no, though. It's the perfect statement making coat, and while you can keep everything casual, adding the coat makes you that much more glam with no effort at all. Since it's such a fleeting trend, I'd rather look for a vintage coat than invest in a new one, and I've seen some great options for very reasonable prices; they just haven't fit...

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! It will be pouring all weekend in San Francisco, so I'm going to do my best to stay warm and cozy indoors. If it does let up momentarily, I'll be taking some outfit pics for you guys, since I've worn a lot of things I want pictures of, but haven't been able to get due to the rain :)

Breaking Away

It's been raining all day today, and it looks like it's going to keep going until the end of the weekend. Unfortunately life doesn't pause for a little rain, so I braved it, and was out in it all day. That also means that I did not look cute, so no pics of today's outfit, but good news is I have an outfit from a few days ago saved up! This is from when it was ridiculously frigid and windy. In an attempt to break away from the recent trouser outfit take-over, I wore my brightest midi skirt. Wool tights and boots aided in keeping me warm, as did the wool sweater and trench coat. My favorite part was that the wind would pick up the skirt, and it would flow with the wind beautifully.

The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen

June gloom? More like January gloom, to me. It was gloomy, icy, and plain old ugly outside, so what better way to feel comfortable than to eat some comfort food? When it's cold and rainy outside, the one thing you can count on me craving is a grilled cheese sandwich with a side of tomato soup. It's a childhood thing. The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen serves exactly that, but more grown up. They have a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches to choose from, and their soup is one of the best, so if you're freezing your buns off in SF, check this place out. Then go next door and shop away at Jeremy's. You know I would ;)

The Mousetrap Sandwich (Sharp Cheddar, Havarti, and Monterey Jack cheeses) with bacon and turkey added.

Regular Mousetrap and Smokey Tomato Soup.

Also, just a quick side note. Please vote NO on SOPA and PIPA. I agree, piracy should stop, but these acts will affect a lot more than that, and our internet freedom will be gone. How else am I going to share my love for clothes and food with all of you?!?!

Black and Leather

It's getting colder and colder, and I can finally break out my big chunky sweaters that have been sitting in my closet since early November. This one is one of my favorites because of the edgy leather sleeves. It's a small detail, but it makes a really big difference in the overall look of an outfit.

Jumping into Spring

Although San Francisco saw a sudden drop in temperature yesterday, I was comfortably wearing this Spring-y outfit on Friday, sandals and all. Winter has finally arrived, just as I was getting excited for Spring wear :( I've always liked looser fits, and wispy layers for Spring, and I think my trousers (yes, trousers again) and blouse speak to that. I layered a cropped cashmere sweater over the whole look because sometimes I feel I know San Francisco's weather "moodiness" better than I know myself...
