100 Years of Style

Happy Friday everyone! I wanted to leave you with this clever little video. It's old, but I stumbled upon it recently, and thought I should share.

Highlighted

Sorry I haven't been able to put up as many outfit posts as I normally do, but the SF weather hasn't been friendly as of late, and I'm learning to adjust to a new schedule (details to come), so please hang in there as I get into the swing of things. Thanks for stopping by regularly regardless, though, I really appreciate it.

Now for an outfit post...yay! This is a bolder look than I would normally go for. I don't usually choose to stand out with loud colors, but I'm embracing Spring's neon trend wholeheartedly, and I committed. I actually didn't mind the attention either. I thought pairing this bold, highlighter pink color with a nautical themed striped sweater, and neutral boots was an easy way to keep visual interest, while toning down the look. What do you think?

Currently Craving: Black and White Florals

While I've already purchased a brighter and bolder floral pant, here, I can't stop lusting over this black and white pair. They are much more modest, and when the trend ends, these can still be worn in your regular denim rotation.

Stay In the Know

Club Monaco is launching their E-Commerce site tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited. While there is a store here in SF, this makes tracking products a lot easier. And for those of you who don't have a store in your hometown, you can join in on the love now!!

Watercolor Blooms

Happy Monday everyone! I hope your weekend was nice and relaxing. Now that it is officially Spring, I seriously cannot get enough of floral prints. The cheeky cutouts on this blouse makes it all the more fun. I though pairing this blouse with relaxed jeans, and my new favorite booties, was the perfect way to go for a laid back, yet slightly dressed up look.

Trend-spotting: Pastels

This is definitely not news, but of course pastel colors are a huge hit for Spring 2012. I wanted to point them out because they are a great alternative to neons, if you aren't all about standing out in loud colors. They are much easier to pair with your existing wardrobe, and if you're color shy, rather than sticking to accessories like you would with neon shades, you could wear pastels from head to toe, and still be muted and soft. The colors are absolutely beautiful in light and airy silks, and in tougher leather, suedes, and cottons.

Ikat

Two big looks I'm liking for Spring that I haven't covered yet in my Sunday Trend Spotting Series is the tribal or ikat print, and denim jackets. This look has both, and if I weren't wearing tights, this is definitely an on trend Spring 2012 ensemble. The tribal print looks is gonna be big towards the end of Spring, early Summer, because you know every Coachella fashionista will be sporting this vibrant print. Denim jackets are the perfect transitional piece to keep you warm and on trend.

New In

My obsession with brown leather booties continues with my newest purchase; but with the rich cognac hue, comfortably modest heel, and fun ankle straps, who could say no to this pair?

Spring!

Not only is it the first day of Spring, but it is also the Persian New Year for me today!! So even though you may not celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Spring, and year ahead of you.

Ironically, I wore a pretty monochromatic outfit for a day that called on pastels, or maybe even neons. I like the ease, and flowy feel of this blouse from H&M, and though it is monochromatic, it feels very warm weather appropriate. I also added a pop of purple with the shoes, just for some festivity ;)

Lumberjack Chic

For a casual Sunday, I can think of nothing more comfortable than a flannel shirt and jeans, but I don't want to look like a frumpy lumberjack. So I wore a crisp blazer and some statement heels to pull the look together, and dress it up. Funny how I ended up next to a vintage car and gas station set up later that day...

Trend-spotting: Neon

Another trend for Spring, that I think can be quite fun, is Neon. This bright color trend is a perfect way to infuse more bold colors into your look. Easier ways to incorporate this trend into your existing wardrobe is with accessories, like a bold necklace, or a great shoe, even a clutch. If you're really daring, try wearing a stand out neon patterned dress out for a night instead a LBD or solid colored dress. And if you work in a more laid back office setting, try a tweed skirt with neon yellow threading throughout.

Belt in Up

Remember how I said that a scarf can be your best accessory? Well besides throwing it on to add some fun to a look as a scarf, you can also have it be a stand in for a blouse. Sometimes, when I just can't figure out what blouse to pair with an otherwise completed outfit, I grab the scarf that I intended on putting on anyways, and belt it around my torso. Under a coat it works like a kimono style blouse, and with a plain t-shirt and sweater layered on, if you need to take off the coat, you're still covered up!

Celebrity Style: Andre 3000

I know that I mainly focus on women's fashion on PostGradChic, but for this edition of Celebrity Style, I wanted to focus on a very stylish man- Andre 3000. While there are plenty of celebrity women that have their own unique style and taste, none tread the line of costume-ish and everyday wear quite like Andre 3000. His style seems like it's from a different era, and yet it maintains a modern aesthetic. He plays with colors, materials, and patterns like a pro, and knows his style so well. He exudes confidence with every look, and while his style may not be suited for most, I admire is understanding of fashion, and wish more men were as daring and experimental as he is when it comes to putting on clothing in the morning.

Mixed Materials

There are a lot of different materials going on in this look- silk, wool, tweed. I like how they all came together though. It's kind of a nod to menswear, but at the same time, not really. I really like this coat I have from Elizabeth and James, but it's so difficult to wear in the city. It's not warm enough to wear on cooler days, but it seems too heavy for a sunnier day, so when the weather is gloomy, yet mild, I love breaking this out since it's so rare.

In Blooms

I'm really excited to have this outfit up today because I love this look. After this post, I wanted to show that floral pants are easily wearable, and can be transitioned into your closet effortlessly. I wore this out to dinner with Jessica and Ashley this past weekend. A chambray shirt tones down the bold pattern of the pants, and neutral black sandals have the same effect. For a little glitz I added a gold collar necklace under the blouse so it would only peek out now and then. A neutral gray coat tops everything off and keeps you warm.

Coat: Steven Alan (similar) Blouse: Zara (similar) Pants: H&M (similar) Sandals: Aerosoles (alternative) Necklace: H&M. Rings: Vintage.
