Trend-spotting: Pointy-toe Pumps

Another trend that Spring 2012 is bringing us is the ever-so classic pointy-toe pump. Gone are the days of impossibly high platforms, and cinder block style heels. There are so many different interpretations of this classic shoe now, that there is one to fit any person's style. Try wearing a pastel hue, which is on trend for the season. A d'orsay style pump is a sexier version of the classic cut, and would look great with a cropped trouser, or full a-line skirt. A neutral suede navy pump with a metallic heel is easily wearable and just a little different. Metallic pumps are also very in for Spring 2012, and the perfect addition to a pastel outfit, or a rocker chic look for a night out. Try a neon pair for a pop of color, and the classic black to pair with the cropped floral trousers you bought after this last post ;)

Editing

This outfit is something that I liked in theory, but now seeing it in a picture, I can see things I could have done differently. Sometimes, taking pictures of what you're wearing really helps you edit it until it looks right. This is one of those times where I think I should have done that, so I thought I would share it. My biggest gripe is that bag. I've been wearing a back-pack to help my back; it's been aching recently and I'm sure it is due to the weight distribution of my heavy bags. With this sweater though, I can't have anything pulling at the sleeves to preserve the shape. Also, I could have done without the necklace. What I do like is the silhouette of the swingy sweater and tight pencil skirt, and how the browns really help the plum color of the skirt pop. All in all though, I did enjoy wearing this out, and with a few swaps, it's something I would definitely try again.

Valentine's

Sorry I couldn't wish you guys a happy Valentine's day yesterday- so here is a belated one :)

My Valentine's day was casual, just the way I like it, and ended with gourmet pizza, and a good comedy. Below is what I wore for Valentine's day, too. No pinks or reds for the day, I think it's a little cheesy. I thought that the leopard print, semi-sheer blouse was perfectly flirty enough for the occasion.

Blazer: Anthropologie. Blouse: Marshall's. Trousers: American Apparel (similar and cheaper). Shoes: Madewell (here). Necklace: Vintage. Sunglasses: Ray Ban. Bag: Aldo.

Stand Out

I cannot stress how much I believe that your outerwear should be unique, fun and different. As the temperatures drop, I notice that individual's uniqueness in style sometimes does as well because everyone is bundled up under a big neutral coat. While I do think a fantastic, classic neutral coat is a closet necessity, I also think that one or two more fun ones are as well. I have a few coats, that if need be, could make an outfit on their own with the right shoes and accessories, not that it's practical in anyway whatsoever, but I think it's a good rule of thumb. Below I am wearing one of my favorite standout coats with a simple sweater, black jeans, and black boots. I think if it weren't for the coat's unique pattern, texture and details, my outfit would be quite plain and boring. So what are you waiting for, go get crazy with your outerwear!!!
