Trend-Spotting: Ankle Socks

Mulberry Spring 2012

I know, I know... ankle socks were kinda cute for Fall, but still hard to fully pull off. I for one am a huge fan of ankle socks peeking out of booties for Fall, but I also think this is a cute look that could be worn in the warmer months. Like seen above, try pairing neutral ankle socks with sky high open toed sandals, a cute printed mini skirt and a simple tank tucked in. It can go from day to night, and will have you stand out from the rest, in a good way ;)

Also I put a new skirt up in my shop, shoppostgradchic, check it out. It's perfect for the season!

Currently Craving: Asymmetry

I need some asymmetry in my life! Only when it comes to awesome hemlines, though. It's the mullet of clothing, except the party is in the front, and the business in the back. These are easy to dress up or down, and I'm looking for the perfect one to pair with thick patterned wool tights, rugged booties, and a thick cashmere sweater for day, and sexy stilettos and a lot of jewelry for night.

High and Low

I've had this skirt for a couple of years now, but it was only until yesterday that I realized how incredibly short it is. Good thing I've always worn it with tights, or else that would have been embarrassing. Not to say I don't embarrass myself enough in other ways...

I personally don't think that if something is too short you have to get rid of it (unless you're uncomfortable), because there are ways to make it work and be modest. My outfit for example balances out a short hemline with thick black tights and booties to help cut the leg line a bit. On top I wore a modest chunky knit sweater, and a longer then normal blazer. Layering on more modest pieces with one stand out piece helps make the item more everyday appropriate, and makes it more versatile, therefore you get more bang for your buck!

There are so many variations of this too, for example pairing a long cardi and button up blouse with a similar skirt. Go ahead, give that daring item in your closet another try ;)

Tough Girl Sparkle

Happy Halloween! I didn't celebrate :( Did you???

Sequins and sparkle are back with a vengeance, and what perfect timing since the holiday season is around the corner?! I personally am glad that this trend is catching on big time. It's the perfect way to just take an outfit to the next level. The skirt I'm wearing I initially bought thinking it would be perfect for upcoming nights out, and even more perfect for New Years, but I also wanted to integrate it into my daily wardrobe. I decided that the best way to do this was to pair it with tough girl boots and a slouchy sweater. The juxtaposition of the sequins in the nature heavy environment in the photos is also something I really like.

Cropped Sweater, Structured Skirt

When putting an outfit together, one of the main things you have to think about is balance. A tight shirt should be balanced out with something less form-fitting(yet still flattering) on bottom, or the opposite. Below I wore one of my favorite cardigans. It's super loose and swingy, with a cropped front and longer back. I usually pair it with skinny jeans and boots for a casual look, but instead I decided to dress it up. I wore a structured pencil skirt to balance out the swingy, loose shape of the sweater, and the cropped front of the sweater shows off the cool draping that begins right at the waistline of the skirt.

Ethnic Florals

Today I felt like wearing something super breezy and lightweight to fight the heat. I also wanted to wear my new flea market finds. This outfit came to mind. The top is as breezy as the skirt is airy. I also saw an opportunity to experiment with more prints, and I think this combo looks great. The floral water color print seemed neutral enough to handle the bold ethnic print of the top without clashing or losing it's presence. Then I topped it off with my new finds :)

Orange Crush

I trekked out to Union Square yesterday with a friend for some coffee, shopping, and catching up. I love to sit out in the plaza and people watch when it is nice out. You see some very interesting characters that make this city what it is.

Pattern Play

When I'm stumped on how to dress due to the fickle weather in San Francisco, a maxi skirt or dress is the way to go. It's enough coverage to keep you warm, but still breezy if it ends up being warmer than expected. Yesterday I left the foggy climate of the Richmond district for the sunshine and heat of Union Square and was perfectly comfortable for the transition in this outfit!

I also liked how the stripes of the skirt compliment the fan pattern on the blouse. They do not clash at all- instead they hold their own and blend beautifully...In my opinion that is...

LOVE these peep-toes! Super comfy and
super cute!

I also treated myself to something new while downtown yesterday...

These guys were on sale ($39) at Zara so I had to snatch them up.

Also, a fellow blogger featured my Sunny Saturday post this morning. Check it out here! The Anthropologie Connoisseur has a great eye for styling so I recommend taking the time to look through her posts.
